09/28 network video

[ there is a teenage girl with just. way, way too much hair. way too much hair. she looks nervously excited, and waves at the communicator once. so does the chameleon on her shoulder. ]

Um, hi! I'm new? I mean, that's not a question, I'm new, and! I was wondering if anyone is really good at braiding hair? I kinda can't do it all on my own. Or not...quickly? And it's, um, there are so many little passages and stuff around here it's kind of a pain to just leave it down soooooooo. I can cook you something in exchange?

[ a beat. ]

Oh! I forgot. I'm Rapunzel? That's. Also not a question oh my gosh I can't do this anyway even if you can't braid I'm in the kitchen? Making cake and cookies? If you want any? It's kiiiiiind of a holiday for me. A little bit. It's my birthday! So. If you want to drop by that'd be great! If not, that's. Also great? Yeah!! So I should just. Turn...this off now.

[ she needs to work on her awkward levels but she. tried. ]

09/28 base kitchen

[ like she said, rapunzel can pretty much be found in the kitchen all day, just. reorganizing stuff (no one seems to mind? it should be okay?) and chopping and drying the spices magnus chase found like in the tdm and also just. baking cake. lots of cake. and cookies. they have eggs and she can make a ton of shit from scratch okay she's got this even if it's mostly fruit flavored cakes but hey we have cocoa so. she can do chocolate stuff?

she's also probably singing or humming to herself and she'll jump just, super high whenever anyone comes in. ]

Oh! Oh, uh, sorry, you scared me! Not that you're scary. I mean, unless you want to be scary? I'm not sure why someone would want to be scary - er, anyway, hi! Did you want something to eat? I have...lots.

09/27 | locked to korra

[ the last thing she remembers is the ugly duckling and the tunnels underneath, and rapunzel can't recall when she fell asleep. but she must have, because she wakes up on a...mountain. so. that's a thing. she also has to spend some time negotiating with the birdogs who tried to make a nest of her hair, but luckily her disney princess powers make her super great with animals. so that's not actually that difficult.

the mountain climbing is also...well, it's more difficult than befriending birdogs, but they kind of lead her down and so she follows along, all her hair bundled up in her arms, although she's probably getting cuts on her feet and legs and yeah this is just. all around a dumb thing.

she has no idea where she is. at all. but she's tired and confused and no one is there to stop her when rapunzel huffs and flops to the ground, her hair spilling out of her arms. ]

Oooooh. I don't know if we should keep wandering around, Pascal. Maybe we should wait for night time? I could at least get us oriented from the stars, then. But...that's pretty far away?

[ help her??????? help her. korra, you're her only hope. she's talking to her chameleon who has no ideas, either. ]

But I didn't see anything familiar from up there - how's that possible?

[ she's mumbling again. ]

[ Chihiro's here for a vote of confidence with her hair clearly down and a cowlick sticking up in the back. She... may have just been napping. There may also be glitter on her cheek. ]

[ She's still waking up what was the rest of all of that again? ]

[Floater Island isn't too hard to reach when one has a glider staff handy. Though the new island for the base is just about done, Korra decides to do her training on Floater Island for the day, if only because she hasn't gotten a good look at the place since the day she arrived. It's a nice change of scenery.

Knowing that other residents of the base are regulars on the island, Korra isn't too surprised when she spots someone else on her way back. She offers the blonde a smile and a wave of her hand as she walks by.]

Hey. First time on the island? You look kinda confused.

[ are we considering your test thread canon or nah. ]

If it's cake for your birthday, why would you share? And happy birthday, sorry I can't braid hair.

[ shocking considering he's a. viking. that sounds like viking 101. ]

[ every inch of counter space in the kitchen is in use. there's no "maybe" about this. ]

[ it's okay, rapunzel is an early bird and way too energetic all the time. not everyone is like that. ]

Really?! Do you think you can help me braid. Well. [ she gestures to. seventy feet of blonde hair, before peering at chihiro a little more closely. ] Oh! Are you working on something else, though? An art project?

[ she fell asleep making a candy bag, her life is an exciting adventure of who even knows anymore. chihiro combs her hair with her fingers, finally processing that rapunzel isn't just sitting around somewhere bright. that gold is all her hair.

woah. her eyes widen for a moment, but she nods, struck dumb. for like. five seconds. ]

Oh, um. Candy bags for next month. We're going to be having a celebration. You have so much hair. Doesn't it get tangled?

[ oh my gosh it's a person. rapunzel squeaks, but. no. she's got this! she took on an entire tavern of people, but they were all guys? this is the first time she's ever seen another girl? who wasn't. you know. her mother.

she sits up bolt upright and fiddles with her hair. some of her hair. not all of her hair. ]

Er! Yes? I mean, yes! I'm a first-timer on this island, which I...completely know the location of. Right. [ 100% not lost ] Although if you, um, have a map handy just so I can...double check the thing I absolutely do know, that would be great? Hi. I mean, hi! That should have come first. I'm Rapunzel?

[ genuine question. she rarely gets to hang with anyone but a chameleon on her b-day. ]

[His eyes LIGHT UP at the sheer volume of food that has been prepared. Amazing]

You did all of this? That's awesome! It smells delicious.

[Without any further prompting he takes one. Okay, he takes two, but they're really good.]

A celebration? Ooooh, what for?!

[ she loves parties! she. thinks. rapunzel has never actually...been to one...

she laughs nervously and tucks a strand of hair behind one ear. ]

And, um, yeah. My hair does get tangled, I just have to brush it a lot? Sooooo.

I guess, but if you don't share then you get to eat a whole cake. Simple math.

[ magnus is the wrong person to ask his last birthday involved dying. would have preferred a whole cake. ]

Something called Halloween? From what I understand, people wear costumes and get candy.

[ that's oversimplified but admittedly she stopped paying attention after dave got her to agree to being the candy exchange coordinator? so??? who cares it's all about the fun?

belatedly rapunzel's own celebration penetrates the fog of a young mind to prompt her into staring at the camera and going OH. oooooh. ]

Happy birthday! I'm sorry, I'm... not really awake. [ in fact, she's stifling a yawn behind her hand right now. ] It's nice to meet you, 'Punzel. 'm Chihiro.

[ if she can stop yawning she'll start saying names right... ]

So the braids. Yeah, I'm happy to help you with that! I don't know anyone with hair that long... it's pretty. And amazing. And pretty.

[ she pauses... she'd already said pretty. ah... wake up, chihiro! she paps her own cheeks. ]

I'll come to the kitchens now. Should I bring a brush? I have hairties.

[ Hotaru sees Rapunzel's video first and decides to head to the kitchen instead of answering via video. The name Rapunzel and all that hair makes Hotaru think of the fairy tale, and at this point, she can accept it as reality. Stranger things than fiction can happen on Iniidae.

She holds her hands up in a hopefully calming and reassuring way once Rapunzel's back on the ground. In one of her hands are a couple of origami flowers. ]

Hi. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I wanted to say happy birthday!

[ She smiles and offers the flowers in her hands. ]

I know it's not much, but I also wanted to welcome you.

[Korra can't quite hold back the snort of laughter. Okay, and she thought she was a bad liar.]

I'm Korra. And this is Floater Island. I can show you the map, but... [She crosses her arms over her chest.] How did you even get here if you don't know where this is?

Well, then happy birthday!

Sadly I can't really help you braid your hair, but I'm sure there will be lots of people who can.

[He laughs a little bit, though only he really gets the joke.]

Also, welcome to living under the sea, I suppose. Hopefully this is a decent birthday present for you.

[ ada doesn't look like the friendliest individual in the world but she's making an effort to sound approachable. ]

My sister can help you with your hair. Is there a style of braiding you'd want in particular? [ besides 'many' and 'a lot' since that's a given? ]

I could build you a robot to do it.

[But he figured he should make the offer for a hair-braiding robot first. Because honestly he's been designing URSULA's tentacle body (he knows) so he already has enough material in terms of design to get this done shortly.]

[ it sounds crazy, and rapunzel knows it... ]

I'm not sure I could really eat a whole cake all by myself! Diiiiiiid you want cake?

[ he sounds like he wants a whole cake?

Oh! This is so...they're so pretty!

[ they're the first presents she's ever gotten for her birthday besides things from mother, which she'd had to ask for. paints and the like, always, but these - she didn't ask for these. although she'd had to remind people as usual it was her birthday, since...no one but rapunzel and pascal ever remembered the day.

well, them and the lanterns.

rapunzel takes the flowers, cradling them in her hands, and tells herself she absolutely will not cry. ]

You made these? For me?

It's...not what I expected to be doing, but that's okay!

[ the lanterns can happen next year. if she...ever gets home. drat. ]
