THE GRAND REEF ADVENTURE | OPEN EXPLORE MINGLE

[A fairly large group of heroes is making a foray into the Grand Reef now that the Reapers are gone. They're keeping an eye out for resources the base/Naoko could use but also questioning the fish; checking for signs of humans passing through; and also looking for the Emperor’s children, which the Reefbacks have pointed out might possibly be lurking in this area.


i. fishy findings

[Thanks to the combined efforts of the group, they’re able to get some information from the local fish. It’s a bit of a charades game for everyone (except Percy) but it becomes apparent that the Emperor’s children aren’t in the Grand Reef..or at least not the part they can access right now. But the fish seem more than happy to share some additional information about recent signs of humans and--well. Maybe they really do need a translator for some of this. Do you need some help communicating with the locals, or are you able to figure out what they’re so eager to talk about?

It looks like Fi is able to pick up signs of some natural magical hotspots here with her abilities, too, for those interested in that side of things.]


ii. hunt for humans

[The crew of the Degasi has left yet another abandoned base in this area, fill with supplies and information that could be of use. Their prizes this time are some audio logs, books, tacky sweaters, knives and other weapons, Reaper meat, and most importantly donuts. Additionally, locked inside of a desk is an odd object that might be worth investigating.

All of these finds aren’t going to make it back to the base all on their own, though, so it might be time for some good old fashioned looting. The Degasi crew’s illness and their run-ins with the Reapers might be worth discussing, too.]

Even if the water pressure isn't a problem, the virus that got everyone sick could be. We don't know how far it's spread down in those tunnels and we're going off of the assumption that they're all connected.

[but he does concede that it's worth looking into]

It might be worth a try if we're running out of options.

Have we found a vaccine or an antidote or something for that virus? If everybody got sick once they had to get better.

Maybe it's crazy, but if they keep saying "below" we need to rule it out. Just in case.

Yeah, we've got a vaccine for it. Valentine made it for us, you can get it in the medbay. But that's no reason to be careless--if a different strain of it develops we'll still be in trouble. Using the sub would be the safest bet...

[he sighs and relents a little--or at least looks interested]

Can you really swim down that far on your own?

[expulsions]

I'll keep it in mind if it's the same strain. If it's different..I'll quarantine myself.

Being a half-blood means we're naturally a little stronger than most mortals, but being a son of Poseidon means water pressure doesn't bother me. I can dive down as far as I need to.

[imsorey]

Take the vaccine before you go swimming off anywhere. We won't know if you've caught anything new until you're back, so just make sure to go straight to the medbay and have someone give you a check-up to see.

[If Percy's already made up his mind to go, which Sorey is assuming he has, then he'd rather work with him than spend unnecessary time protesting.]

I'll admit it's a relief to know that you're, well, sturdy. There are some creatures down in the tunnels that are a pain to deal with, so all I ask is for you to try not to be too reckless. Our telepathy works for quite a ways, so If you need anything you can still call for us too.

[expulsions]

Sure. I'll contact Valentine before I go to make sure everything's arranged. [...probably. He'll most likely remember, at least.] It'll be important to have that information anyway.

[He's not wrong, Percy pretty much decided it can't hurt and if he's here he may as well use his powers for good.] C'mon man, do I really look like I'd be reckless? [Don't answer that, Sorey.] I've dealt with some pretty bad creatures before...if it gets too dangerous, I'll bail. As long as I'm in the water I should be okay. I'll call if something happens.

[imsorey]

It's not that I think you'll be reckless. More like, I know what I'd do if it was me, so I want to make sure someone's got your back.

[Sorey can be fairly reckless in his own right, but his friends are usually pretty good about pulling him back before he does anything too stupid. He figures he can do the same for Percy if need be.]

I can go down pretty far too, but I need Mikleo's help, so I've always got backup around.

[expulsions]

[When you think about it that way, okay, sure, it makes sense. To his credit at least he looks a little embarrassed for thinking he could just charge straight ahead.]

Maybe that's not a bad idea. Usually Annabeth's my cover but the water pressure would be too much for her. [Also he refuses to risk her life like that even if he won't say so to her face. Annabeth's tough, but even Percy knows they both have limits.]

As long as I have my sword I should be okay. Mikleo...helps you breathe down that far, I'm guessing. Something like that. You guys are partners aren't you?

[imsorey]

[nodding at Percy's guess, but not elaborating--it's difficult to describe the pact to people who don't have all of the background information that goes with it, and he doesn't feel like sidetracking them. it can be a conversation for another day.]

Yeah. We've been running around exploring ruins together since we were old enough to walk. And here he can make the water work with us instead of against us. At least some of the time.

[expulsions]

[There are so many questions that would come from that so good call, Sorey. The rest of that he can understand though.]

Annabeth's usually the one who comes up with our plans and I do the work. [The look on his face says that's not entirely true though. They interchange well enough and function as a team.] I've known her since we were twelve...she was one of the first people I met when I realized who I was.

[But now they're off-topic.] I'll talk to Valentine first change I get. And I'll update you if I find out anything new. Deal?

[that sounds like enough of a plan to him, at least for the moment. they have plenty of time to explore after Percy has proper vaccinations.]

Sounds great. Thanks for the advice, Sorey. [He looks like he has more to say but the fish also seem to be swarming him to argue...sorry friend, that's probably about as helpful as he's going to be for now.]
