subnautica | THE GRAND REEF ADVENTURE

[A fairly large group of heroes is making a foray into the Grand Reef now that the Reapers are gone. They're keeping an eye out for resources the base/Naoko could use but also questioning the fish; checking for signs of humans passing through; and also looking for the Emperor’s children, which the Reefbacks have pointed out might possibly be lurking in this area.

i. fishy findings

[Thanks to the combined efforts of the group, they’re able to get some information from the local fish. It’s a bit of a charades game for everyone (except Percy) but it becomes apparent that the Emperor’s children aren’t in the Grand Reef..or at least not the part they can access right now. But the fish seem more than happy to share some additional information about recent signs of humans and--well. Maybe they really do need a translator for some of this. Do you need some help communicating with the locals, or are you able to figure out what they’re so eager to talk about?

It looks like Fi is able to pick up signs of some natural magical hotspots here with her abilities, too, for those interested in that side of things.]

ii. hunt for humans

[The crew of the Degasi has left yet another abandoned base in this area, fill with supplies and information that could be of use. Their prizes this time are some audio logs, books, tacky sweaters, knives and other weapons, Reaper meat, and most importantly donuts. Additionally, locked inside of a desk is an odd object that might be worth investigating.

All of these finds aren’t going to make it back to the base all on their own, though, so it might be time for some good old fashioned looting. The Degasi crew’s illness and their run-ins with the Reapers might be worth discussing, too.]

That's not a bad idea. You'd know more people than me anyway.

What if we tried to talk to her together? Fi and I have some stuff to send her. Maybe she'd be more open to answering questions for us if we helped her out.

[Korra tilts her head, curious.]

[There's a pretty wide grin which is a good sign that he's being genuine here.]

We found a bunch of scrap metal out there and lithium, I think. It's pretty sturdy so I hope she can use it for reinforcements and whatever. Have you met Fi? She's pretty good at finding stuff.

Sounds like it could come in handy. The island she's camped out on is apparently way more dangerous than the ones like Floater Island. Maybe we could come up with some more questions to ask her. Like an exchange?

I don't think I've met Fi, though. What does she look like?

I still want to give her what we found even if she doesn't answer all of our questions. They could use it.

[What was that about bleeding hearts?] But we're going to try it anyway. I want to ask about her crew...what else do you think would be the most important to know?

Fi's. Uh. Hold on, it's a little hard to explain. Chihiro told me about this trick... [Give him a moment to concentrate before sending Korra a mental image of Fi.] Did that work?

Well, duh. [Percy gets an expressive roll of the eyes for that.] It'd be pretty heartless to refuse giving them supplies just because she's grumpy about giving answers.

Anyway, maybe we should ask her about the Kharaa, if she's willing to talk about them. They're supposed to be a big deal in the other worlds, but we don't know that much about them.

[Recognition dawns in her expression.] Oh, her! I've seen her around.

[Despite the fact he's already expressed his plans, the look he gives Korra is enough to say that he also wouldn't be above withholding items for information. Sometimes Percy likes to play hardball.]

The Kharaa would be good. I know Dave and, uh, Karkat? They're talking to them directly, I think, but getting an outsider's opinion and advice isn't a bad idea. We can ask if she's ever dealt with them first-hand, too.

[There's a smile.] Fi's pretty okay. She's helped me out a few times. She's also a sword.

Good idea. [Korra rests her cheek in her palm, thinking.] Naoko's been here a long time... we could ask her if she and her crew know anything about the Dragon and the Emperor?

Uh. She's a what, now?

Man, I don't even know anything about the Emperor. Not really. Who's the Emperor?

And she's a sword. The Master Sword, I guess? That's what she told me when I asked.

The Emperor's this other...creature down in the void. It's been stuck in some kind of cave for a while--some of us went down there to try and help it last time. It's, uh, much nicer than the Dragon is.

[Remembering the odd tickle to her senses she feels whenever she saw Fi, Korra gets an idea.]

Is she some kind of spiritual being?

Not sure that's something we should be celebrating. [The dragon's pretty harsh. So. Uh.] Did we get it unstuck...?

[He pauses to think about the question regarding Fi though.] Maybe? She tried to explain everything as magic because it was easier, and I didn't think to ask the rest. [When you're a demigod, you eventually just accept things.] Why?

We got rid of some parts that were keeping it trapped, but... it's still down there. [She grimaces.] We got hit with those nightmares right after that, so we haven't had time to go back yet.

[Korra thinks for a second, then shrugs.] She feels...different. But if she's a sword, then I guess that explains a lot.

Maybe we should think about going back at some point so it doesn't get mad we ditched it. Unless we think it's better to keep it trapped with everything else going on. [That's where it all gets complicated, he thinks.]

That's what she called herself, but she didn't really have a clear answer on who her master was either. From what I got, guy's not even here.
