So in non-radiation-leaking news…[There’s a slight pause and then the splashing of water like Percy’s still in the ocean.] Staying away from the Kharaa sounded like a great idea and I might have found something else.

The place where the water flows below. I think I found it. [And for anyone who wasn’t part of the Grand Reef exploration:] When we went to explore the Grand Reef some of the fish kept mentioning something that attacked the Degasi crew and that one of them might’ve sunk to the water that flows below. Problem is I don’t know if that means one of the crew members or one of whatever attacked them.

Anyway, I’m going back. I didn’t get far enough to really explore down there but there’s a bunch of caves and waterfalls that need to be checked out. [A beat.] Annnd some other stuff.

[That’s not ominous at all.] The tunnels should be big enough to get a submarine down there if anybody wants to come with me. [And suddenly he seems a little more commanding.] I don’t know what we’re going to find down there but if you think you can hold your own, let me know. I want to go back soon.

Barriers are good. If we find anything dangerous we can use them to shield or contain whatever it is. [Plus magic always piques his interest a little.] What else can your magic do?

My magic is best geared towards seals and barriers. I can imbue attacks with Light as well, if it's needed, and give my blessing to weapons so they can drive back evil.

[It sounds a little dramatic but. Well.]

It might not be a bad idea to have some good fortune on our weapons before we explore further as long as your magic can also protect you. But I guess light magic sort of covers that.

[It's nice to hear, anyway.] Besides, we could use all the help we can get down there. Think you'll be good to leave in a few days?

Oh, no, sorry! You have to go through the Goddess's trials before I can bless your weapons. I should have mentioned that. I can do the light magic still for you!

[But no Master Swords for ya'll sorry.]

[WHY!! Zelda that's unfair, he's friends with the Master Sword? Technically? It's not hard to hear his disappointment when he speaks.]

Light magic's totally fine. It's better than going in without it. But what are the Goddess's trials?

They're back where I come from. They are trials of combat, of puzzles, and of endurance, asked of the Chosen Hero. He had to show courage, power, and wisdom before his weapon could be blessed.

The Goddess's Hero did great! So I'd like it if no one else had to follow his path. The blessing of the Goddess is to stand as Evil's Bane, so if we really need it I know the person for the job. As long as we're not fighting any demons down there, we'll be okay.

[expulsions]

[There's a lull of silence as he ponders that.]

Sounds about right for what a goddess would expect. Guess no matter where you're from they like testing their heroes.

He's not here, is he? The Goddess's Hero, I mean.

It is too great a power to give to someone unable to bear it. Both for the hero's sake, and the sake of the Goddess's war against evil.

[There is a quiet austerity to her words. Something which fades as the topic goes to Link.]

He isn't. His name is Link. But his companion Fi is here.

With great power comes great need to take a nap. [He doesn't expect Zelda to know what he's talking about, but it reminds him of that. He gets it. Great power is a great pain in the ass.] Yeah, I think I understand.

[He makes a face even if she can't see it.] Link? [But wait.] I've met Fi. [...give him a second...] Link is the master she was talking about? [And how does Zelda tie into all of this? Gods peoples worlds are a lot sometimes.]

He is! Fi is the Goddess's guide for her Chosen Hero.

Fi never said anything about a goddess, just that she had a master and when she and the master were done with their mission they decided to still be friends. She's an incredible sword though. The goddess has decent taste.

I'd like to meet this Link guy if he ever shows up. You guys would introduce us, wouldn't you?

Fi's wonderful, isn't she? [Zelda seems genuinely enthused about both Zelda and Fi.] She's so much more than Hylia ever intended for her. I'm so glad she has a chance to follow her own path here rather than that set out by fate.

[SHE JUST. SHE LOVES FI. SHE WANTS THE BEST FOR FI. Sorry Percy.]

We'd definitely introduce you to Link! There's no way we'd let him get out of it. [pushy Wisdom blond bosses around unfortunate hero]

Definitely. To all of that. I don't know if Fi knows what to do with herself here since she's...Fi, but I think she's finally getting the hang of it.

[He thinks about some things he's told Fi himself, about enjoying things for what they were without purpose and the like. He wonders if having Zelda here is some kind of comfort to the master sword, too.]

Why doesn't that surprise me? I hope I get to someday. People come and go here all the time. Who knows? Maybe he'll turn up sooner than we think.

[Which is unsettling, but fair.] I'll let you know when we're ready to leave. We won't go without you.
