subnautica | open: action, undersea farmville

[ this is a catch-all for anyone who wants to do anything with the undersea farmville mission; for reference the farming area looks like this (though cleaned of coral and etc) and is about three miles south of the base. the protected area is approximately half an acre in size though it isn't a perfect square and has a few narrow side paths from the rock formation.

they're going with the glass dome method of farming so help gather materials for that (they're trying to make One Huge Glass Dome so the picture isn't entirely accurate. JUST IMAGINE IT BIGGER.) and install it, or help plant the seeds that the strilonde siblings rescued from the aurora. or, you know, help clear out some stubborn schools of fish and/or more coral and plants so we have farming area room. or help hurricane prep. whatever you want.

early on in the month there's a telepathic call to arms if you need it, courtesy dave and loki, which amounts to "hey, we're doing a thing and you can help out if you want to get not seafood faster", although with far too many words and meatphors on dave's part and a far less meandering take on loki's part. plz assist them. ]

So far, we've decided on apples and oranges. We have a huge pool to choose from, though. Pomegranates and broccoli would be good choices too, nutritionally speaking. I'd like some spinach, but you don't get much bang for your buck in terms of space...

As for tea, you don't have to worry. I was already planning on growing some, though I can't guarantee the quality of the product. Do you know much about the tea-cultivating process, miss?

That's nice to hear! It feels... off, not drinking tea as much as I'm used to. And... no, I'm sorry. I don't know much about how to cultivate tea. [ And she does sound really apologetic. ] If there are books to read on it, though, I'll gladly learn. If I can help, I will.

It's nice of you to offer. I'm not sure about the quality of information you'd be able to find, though. It's a pretty specific topic, and URSULA's how-to database is kind of...

Here's what I do know: all true teas come from this single species of plant, Camellia sinensis. Whether the tea is black, green, white, or so on is dependent on the way we process the plant once it's picked. The finer taste of the tea is dependent on the elevation, soil, and weather while the plant is being grown. We have limited control in that respect.

I understand the theory behind making the kind of tea we'd want, but I probably can't replicate a mastery of the art in one crop cycle, aha.

I think tea can help anyone to relax, but you know a lot, mister. I'm sure you'll be able to get the quality you want sooner than you think.

To be honest... Dave is really the one who kickstarted the idea of farming at all. Thinking about it, I'm a little worried about the fate of this crew.

[ Hotaru tends to think more positively of other people, so even if she can sense the nuance there and has some concerns of her own, she's going to give the benefit of the doubt. ]

He seems very excited for apples. I don't know if I've seen someone like a fruit so much. [ A smile creeps into her tone. ] And I think we'll be all right. Some of them seem... worry-free, but we've been fine so far, right? People are trying hard.

[ What a kind-sounding girl. Perhaps too kind... She makes Dave's relentless obsession with apples seem like an admirable trait. But it's refreshing nonetheless. ]

I guess it's not a terrible thing. People have the luxury of being carefree because it's peaceful. If it stays this way, I don't have much room to compain.

[ His words make her think. She takes a (longer) moment before she responds, her gloominess coming out to play. ]

The... Reaper Leviathan at the beginning of last month was scary. I hope we don't have more encounters like that. I hope... we're not attacked while we're asleep.

Hmm. If you feel security in technology, then I think you don't have to worry. The modifications made to the drones around base seem quite formidable.

[ Personally, Loki does not feel security in technology. But he is generally worry-free when it comes to his own safety, so it's all the same. ]
