[After talking to Haruka about the communicators and trying (failing) to figure out how to shut off the memes on his own, Hajime instead went to URSULA to get himself a second communicator. And then he and Haruka decided to rip it apart to find out how it worked with supervision from Dirk.

Sorry if your communicators are now not only showing/playing memes; for a few hours, they're also going to sound rather like chipmunks. Whoops.

Maybe more importantly, with some perseverance and a perhaps a grudge against meme-producing technology, they've found a blueprint to create something called the Fabricator. Which of course they built, because why wouldn't you build something like that.

tl;dr there's now a machine called the Fabricator which characters "can use it to fabricate... fabrics! URSULA is sure they will be pleased to be able to have more than one pair of underwear, as she has noticed that everyone has an odd obsession with hygiene." So go nuts! Hopefully someone knows how to sew...

[B] It's like coffeeshop AU except it's canon

[There's been a new addition to the kitchen! Several new additions, actually, the most notable of which is one of the fancy Starbucks-like coffee machines from the Monolith. It's probably safe to use? No one's died from it yet, anyway. Hajime's also brought back a good amount of the coffee and several different kinds of flavored syrup. It's time to make your coffeeshop AU dreams a reality.

Hajime definitely would have needed help bringing it back, so feel free to steal the credit from him in the end. But it's a mingle! Make your own top-levels, do whatever.]

[They're probably holed up in the lab or somewhere out of the way so no one has to see the cruel act of barbarism they're about to inflict on this extra communicator. There are tools spread everywhere, and fortunately Hajime's remembered to turn the volume down on his own so they're not plagued by a constant chorus of mmm whatcha saaaay too often.

[Probably not, though, unless knowing how to operate the machine is enough to constitute a great talent. But if you have any questions on how to operate the coffee machine, or what kinds of syrups probably taste okay, he can help with that! Don't expect any cute coffee art or anything from him, though, he has no idea how to go about doing that. Or anything too complicated, really.

[What's cute? Hajime takes a second to glance around the kitchen for literally anything else before pausing and staring. Yep, she sure is... poking the coffee machine while talking about cute things.]

[He doesn't see it, but you know what's cute? Her deciding that it is, so he just kind of decides to roll with it.]

Well, I'm glad you're happy with it. It works pretty well, too, I was a little surprised.

[It's okay. Dirk will blast some original Dave Strider remixes to try to drown out the mm watcha say. (Even though he could... probably fix the problem at its source.) He is sitting cross-legged beside Hinata, hands loose in his lap as he watches.]

Just let me know when you want my help.

[He will intervene if anyone is about to do something really stupid or totally deadly or something, but otherwise he wants to let Hinata try to find his own path.]

[Is that supposed to be an improvement in terms of musical accompaniment?]

Way smaller scale than I'm used to. [Even if it means conceding some level of knowledge to The Hipster Kid, Haruka has to admit that she'd rather be working on something with a perceivable engine. This little communicator is completely different from the wrist communicator she carries as a Sailor Guardian...but at least that one's always worked as intended and keeps her words private among the only people she can trust.]

Looks like the mic there. Crack it there. [Which might translate into "literally cracking it like an egg," but in the interest of keeping things clean, she leans over her folded knee with a screwdriver in hand.]

Don't worry, I will, [he answers Dirk first, because he looks a little uncertain to actually take something apart. It shouldn't literally explode in his face or anything, but again. What does this run on? That's what they have to find out.

But at least Haruka seems to know what she's doing, which is a huge relief. Hajime exhales a breath through his nose and takes the screwdrivers.]

Okay, I can handle that. [Let him try! He takes the communicator and frowns, trying to wedge the screwdriver in to try popping it open. He's... not all that concerned about destroying the mic in the process, it'll be fine. And also should prevent this one from generating its own memes, at least audibly.

It takes a couple seconds, but he does manage to wedge the edge of the screwdriver in and twist it, trying to snap it in half without stabbing too much into the middle of the machine. And looks a little pleasantly surprised when it actually works.]

[ yuri asked for a food processor, toaster, and blender. which is great but oh look what's this. someone else thought to ask URSULA for new additions to the kitchen. good this kitchen didn't have much when he arrived earlier this month.

expect he actually doesn't know how to work that machine. hm.

he's at the kitchen table munching on some toast he made and looking at the machine. eventually he'll point to it and look at hajime ]

[...Yes. He definitely asked for it and didn't just steal it. He's a good responsible boy who definitely always asks permission.]

[Hajime blinks, glancing back at the table with a mug in hand. And then brightens, just a little, because finally, something he can help someone else out with.]

Oh, uh... yeah. Do you want me to show you? I could make you a cup, if you want.

[ eh. even if it was stolen yuri doesn't care. chances are down here who is really.. missing it anyways. he's a good responsible adult. ]

Yeah. I could use a cup right now. Go ahead and show me.

[Setsuna doesn't have any sixth sense of her own but she's gotten used to (more or less) the telepathic network that exists here. That means, however, that she's been able to see something she never anticipated: something here to make fabric. It takes her no time to gather her sketchbook and seek the machine out, but once she gets there, well... she's an interplanetary warrior who can manipulate space and time but the thing is still confusing.

Luckily, there's someone nearby. She's hoping he's somewhat more familiar.]

[The someone nearby sure is Hajime, frowning down at a few scraps of fabric he's manage to create. What he's going to do with them, he has no idea, but at least he knows it still works?

Setsuna's voice startles him, and he blinks, glancing back to her.]

Oh, uh... here, take a look. It's kind of weird.

[It's probably something like a 3D-printer for fabric?] These dials here? You can change the thickness of the thread or the color. I guess if you adjust it carefully enough, you could probably make a pattern...? I haven't done anything but make solid colors myself.

[But he noticed that sketchbook!]

[She leans back a little. She hadn't meant to startle anyone but it's good that he seems to know what he's talking about. Setsuna watches the demonstration of the Fabricator with great interest. It is kind of weird and not like any fabric creation process she's ever seen, but the results are unmistakable.]

This is fascinating. Can I try?

[It looks complicated but not impossibly so. Before she gets a chance, though, he asks and she looks down at her sketchbook before offering it over, open to a page of her latest sketches. The models, though vague, might look slightly familiar.]

Not exactly. At least, not in a purely visual way, but it can be art.

[makoto could smell the coffee from all the way down the hallway, and he's a little surprised to see hinata hanging behind the counter. well, a familiar face, at least.]

Hey, Hinata! Is it true that we have a coffee machine now?

[Hajime's kind of taken up temporary residence with the coffee machine, partly because he wants to make sure Jake doesn't try to drink any syrup by itself again, but mostly because he actually knows how to use it. Unlike most things on this base, which he doesn't have a clue about.]

Yeah! We picked it up from the Monolith, it works pretty well.

[It probably does since it can make Starbucks drinks and those exist so? Have as much cocoa as you want, Makoto.]

There's still a lot of features I don't really get, but... I've been able to brew coffee with it.

[he smiles pleasantly up at hinata. it's really a good thing, these kind of small changes here and there to base. he glances over from this side of the counter, and points at it, half hopeful, his mouth slackening open into a small o.]

[it honestly did not take long for the news to spread that there's a machine than can be used to create new clothes. he finds himself following hajime-chan who seems very enthusiastic about the idea itself.]

I mean, I'm happy to help! So long as we have a change of clothes, I think that will be really great for everyone.

[not having to sleep in the same clothes he used during the day would be a respite, to be honest...]

B. COME GET MEASURED... FOR SCIENCE

[makoto isn't necessarily that great with thread and needle, but he's good at handling people! which is why, on this day, he's got a measuring tape (huh??), and is using his communicator to note things down.]

[do you want new underwear? fancy pajamas? a hat? shirt? well, we need your measurements! makoto will be in charge of this.]

I think I can run a list of how many people are here, give or take, and we can multiply that number by the amount of outfits we could provide everyone with? [getting so on board with this idea] I would love to have pajamas to sleep in, to be honest...

Pajamas are definitely a priority! it's not very sanitary to sleep in the same clothes you wore all day.

[ also those clothes are usually not at comfortable as pjs?? this is a situation that needs to be fixed asap. ]

Maybe we can ask people what type of clothing they want most... I'm sure everyone has a different thing in mind.

I'm taking measurements! See, Hajime-chan is going to be using the fabricator to make clothes for everyone, but she asked me to help out by getting some measurements from others so we can have different sized clothes for everyone!
