[OPEN MINGLE: SEPT 8-16]
[So what are you up to as we pass out of the first hectic week of September and into the second? Calm strolls with alien elephants or fast swims with alien sealife? Flashing your sunglasses at crime scenes? Dreaming and building dreams? Waking and building...buildings? There's always a lot to do here, whether it's formal missions or just shenanigans with friends.
Zenning out is fine too!]
Zenning out is fine too!]

[She grins, amused that she keeps getting asked that question.]
Nah. My teacher's a monk, but I was just learning about spirituality from him. And airbending, too. [A shadow crosses her face.] He's the only air bending master left.

I don't know if it's incredible or scary that our dreams are so responsive to our thoughts. Is it both? Our telepathy when we're awake is something URSULA gave us the ability to do, but... I wonder if this is the planet's natural ability?
[ Hotaru already knows Iniidae has magical hotspots, but this is more than just a hotspot. ]
Airbending? What does that have to do with spirituality?
[ There's only curiosity in her tone, not that she knows what airbending is. ]

Oh, yeah. [A smile flits across her lips.] I keep forgetting the things I'm used to back home aren't the same everywhere else. The old Air Nation was made up of monks and acolytes--they've always been the most spiritual of the Four Nations. I guess some of it has to do with the air element, too. Something about being free? [Korra shakes her head with a soft laugh.] My teacher would probably be better at explaining all of this.

No, that makes some sense, that you'd be some kind of spiritual if your mind was on air's wavelength. [ Hotaru did notice the shadow that crossed Korra's face, but it's not a topic she knows how to broach. She doesn't want to step on anything sensitive, so she hesitates even if it is super interesting to hear about how other worlds are. It's like reading, but it's reality. ] You sound like you like your teacher a lot.

What about you? [She nudges the conversation toward Hotaru, hoping to find out a little more about her.] Any family you're missing while you're here?

[ Her expression dims a little, but even if she's done well to cope with any homesickness she's had, the dreamscape won't let her completely hide her melancholy. After all, Hotaru misses her father even when she's home. ]
But it's been easier to deal with because the people here are wonderful.

I know the feeling. At least... we know that everyone's in the same boat, you know? We all miss home, but we're willing to help each other out.
