pulse, and other, open mingle (12-7 to whenever)
[Wowee! We get hit with a pulse on the seventh! Isn't that fun! Also, a ship crashed, and baby it's cold inside. Some prompts.
A: Pulse: A pulse hit the planet! Life support went out, and that super sucks, but it will only last for an hour. Maybe more sucky: some or all of your powers may or may not have died! That's awkward. Are you disappointed you can't walk through walls now? Has nothing changed for you? Are you now a dead girl because you made a deal some aliens? Are you a sword? Have fun kids, and try not to hold a Class Trial.
B: Salvage: That sure was a ship that went down! URSULA identified it as the Narcissus which is apparently a human military ship so obviously this will be safe and no one is going to come across any type of trouble salvaging the ship. Maybe someone should text Naoko to tell her what's going on. Everything is fine.
C: Blanket-sharing meme: You know what you're here for.
D: ETC: Roxy is putting up mistletoe, there are flowers, people keep building stupid things. Do whatever!]
[ooc: OOC post here??]

c for sorey and karkat; early in the month
on the other hand that means Karkat's holding the pad as the movie buffers and has full control of picking the actual movie. and stuff like the volume. and pausing it to yell at them if he must. they don't seem to mind that much]
This one's a romance, right?
no subject
It looks more like the romance is a subplot to the actual story. Hmm, how much romance does a movie need to have for it to be considered a romance, actually?
no subject
If the plot is carried by the romance then it's usually considered a romantic film. Like how in Titanic, the main focus is Rose and Jack and the whole hundreds of people dying horribly is a subplot. So the movie's a romance.

Usually people just categorize them into a bunch of different ones. So if a movie is romantic and tragic, they might say it's a romantic drama or something. It depends? What do you mean they're not funny?

[looks expectantly at Sorey; you opened this can of worms, you explain]

[ since... karkat is not from earth so tbh a large chunk of the references in these films fly right over karkat's head unless they're either repeated enough times in different movies or if someone explains it to him?? ]
We're going to watch Moulin Rouge by the way. It's a musical.

[peering at the screen over Karkat's shoulder]
"The year is 1899, and Christian has come to Paris to follow the Bohemian revolution taking hold of the city's underworld. And nowhere is the thrill of the underworld more alive than at the Moulin Rouge, a nightclub where the rich and poor men alike come to be entertained..."
Not New York, either.
no subject
Oh, Paris sounds nice though! It's the "city of love" isn't it?
no subject
[ he says, as if that means anything at all to anyone in this room. ]

[Karkat please put the movie on before they derail hopelessly into nerddom]

[reaching behind Karkat to nudge Mikleo's shoulder a little in protest]
Plenty of Disney movies have songs and romance incorporated into them and it's worked out, hasn't it? This probably just has a little more singing.
no subject
Apparently this one got nominated for and won a bunch of awards, too.
[ but fine he will start this movie and also i chose it because i want them to cry ]
no subject
I just mean, songs don't really cover the basics and grammatical rules, though if one of those awards is for the music then--ooooh.
[falls silent as the introduction comes on, oh my]

?????
THIS IS A STRANGE AND NEW EXPERIENCE. ]

...it's almost like a fairytale...

[his voice is low, speaking during the brief spaces of silence as the movie sets the scene, and then he's nudging Karkat]
Is there a specific term for that in movies? For this kind of style, anyways.
no subject
[ he points at the screen ]
This is probably one of the best ways I've seen it implemented. It really adds to the drama.

[leans back from the screen slightly as the actual Moulin Rouge and the Diamond Dogs are introduced, though, can-can dancers showing their legs everywhere; his next remark is barely audible]
I'm so glad Zaveid's not here.
no subject
[leaning towards the screen, impressed]
no subject
Apparently all of the music was actually popular songs from Earth culture.
[ not that that really matters to any of the three here since they're not gonna know who the fuck beck is ]
no subject
So that's the common theme! I was wondering why the various songs wasn't sounding as unified as, say, the Disney musicals were...
[trails off again as Satine's introduced, because that is a heck of an introduction]
