CATCHALL LOG - JULY MISSIONS

[The gun is his for now. Shiro thinks it looks like a fascinating tool, and he kind of wants to take a look at it. And try it out. And that's probably a little scary idea -- though really, Shiro is a great deal smarter than he lets on at times.

of course, the fact that right now he's chasing after rabbitrays (and maybe hugging one they're adorable he really wants to keep one.

But even in the midst of rolling around in the water with one of the rabbitrays, he peers over at Fukami.] So what's the strategy for this, Fukami?

[Well, Shiro, play with your rabbitrays and the adults will get some work in... also the gun is his. He's not handing it over, good luck getting it out of his tentacles. He hefts it slightly, in fact, beginning to construct a wall, bit by bit by bit.]

Strong walls, preferably. They'll help against the hurricane.

URSULA mentioned the height at which she thought it would be good to build them up to. I'll be doing their foundation first.

[He pauses to glance down at him.] How are the rabbitrays? [HAVING FUN, HUH, SHIRO except part of Fukami is amused by it.]

That makes sense. If the foundation is built up, that'll help even before the walls are finished. And it'll have to be able to bear the extra weight.

[Shiro has his arms around one of the rabbitrays when he's asked that, and it wiggles -- less to escape than to burrow in closer -- as he laughs.] I think they're interested in what you're doing too.

[A pause.] This one's name is Friedrich.

[Fukami pauses mid-shot in order to look down at him again. His tentacles fan out around him, keeping him balanced in the water, but one poises itself as though it's cocking at him in confusion.]

...You're naming them.

[It's less of a question than a dry comment. Shaking his head, Fukami gets back to what he's doing, since he has Shiro's approval and all as well.]

Of course. I think they like it. Right, Friedrich? [Can the rays actually hear him with the telepathy? Shiro isn't clear on that. He just likes them.] That one over there is Viktoria.

[...not sure if he's guessed their sexes right, but he's going with it. But he lets the rabbitray he'd been wrestling with slip free as he makes his way over towards where Fukami is standing.]

Is there something I can do to help?

[Besides moral support?]

[A light mental sigh. But it's kind of cute. Fukami's unintentionally distracted by watching him fawn over rabbitrays, shifting the terraforming gun to keep on working, gradually building up the base of the wall that he's working on.]

Not too much. The terraforming gun doesn't work well while things are in the way, though, if you could move that scrap metal down there.

[He nods to indicate it.]

Mm! I can do that!

[Shiro will make his way over to the scrap metal in question and glances back towards Fukami. Well, umm. Well, it's Fukami. Fukami can know about his abilities; there's no warm in it, and no sense doing this the hard way, right?

So there might be a faintly silvery glow in the water, surrounding Shiro and the scrap metal, that he more or less just touches and has it lifted and pulled along with him. He's gotten better at adjusting the power of the silver aura to account for being under water. Gravity is still gravity, after all.

Long story short, he's going to be making short work of the debris clearing.]

[Fukami's gaze flickers slightly, curiously, as he watches him, sees that silvery glow. His tentacles push him and he comes down, a little closer, to better watch as he uses his abilities. More secrets, revealed! Except, he doesn't know how much of this was a secret.

Nevertheless.]

This is quite helpful. Thank you, Shiro.

[Ha. Helpful. Even through the breathing gear, Shiro looks undeniably pleased at what Fukami has to say, glancing over at him. ...not so much of a secret really. But one of these days, he'll float you around too Fukami. Just you wait.]

Mm! I'll keep at it too. Do you think the scrap metal could be useful? Should I put it somewhere for salvage?

[Some of it might have some life in it yet. Other bits are definitely too corroded to be all that great.]

[Don't you dare float him around, Shiro. If that day comes, Shiro will get a sound tentacle-whapping. An unpleasant re-introduction to his tentacles...

But for now, that goes unknown. He watches Shiro and he nods his head briefly. Don't think he doesn't notice that he's pleased. Shiro shows that all-too-easily on his face.]

Yes. If you could pile it by the base's entrance, we can take in the good pieces when we are finished here.

[It'd be fun though right? Floating around. Flying high together! It'd be pretty great?

But business calls right now. He's staying focused. He wants to be useful here, even if he feels like so much of what goes on here is outside of what he's any good at.]

Good idea. I'll start a pile.

[And of he swims to get started on that, trips back and forth.

With a pause to chase the rabbitrays before showing up beside Fukami again.] Say, Fukami?

[Fukami watches him with approval--amusement when he chases the rabbitrays--before refocusing. Shiro's distracting!! And here Shiro is being so productive.

With the terraforming gun, he continues with his work, watching the wall begin to be built up, tiny part by tiny part.

When that mental voice comes again, he cocks his head to one side without looking his way.]

Yes?

[Siiiiidling up to him, there's a smile in his mental voice.]

Could I try doing that? It looks kind of interesting.

[Give him the gun this can only end well.]

[At once--

His gut is giving him warnings. Expression cooling as he scrutinises Shiro, he tightens his hold slightly on the gun.]

Would this be another incident like the first time you drove the Seamoth?

[how could he forget]

You mean when everything went well and we collected all sorts of useful samples and made it back safely?

{THAT TIME?? That's how Shiro remembers it anyway. He looks back at Fukami.

Let him try give him the gun he can do it he's an adult!!!]

Your ability to remember so positively amazes me.

[His mental voice is incredibly dry.

Not handing the gun over yet, either. Well. He's going through the what's the worst he could do? possibilities in his head right about now.]

That's how it happened? How do you remember it?

[Enlighten him, Fukami!

And then let him try shooting the earth gun thing.]

I remember plenty of lurching. And nearly crashing.

[Fukami pauses for effect.] More than once.

That is definitely an exaggeration! It only lurched a little. And we didn't crash at all. Nearly is too dramatic a word too!

[Wow, Fukami. He is basically the best driver of all time. He just had to work out a few kinks is all. There was a learning curve.]

...As I said, I am amazed at your positivity.

[This discussion isn't convincing him to pass over the gun. As it is, he's still appraising Shiro with thoughtful eyes.] What did you wish to do with the terraforming gun?

[Somehow he doubts the mundane task of building walls will appeal to Shiro.]

Aaah you really are remembering it all wrong.

[Oh well. But he looks right back at Fukami, blinking at him through the mask.] I wanted to help with the walls. You could show me, right?

[...and then he might experiment a little. Once the work part is done.]

...

[Silence, from Fukami. A long moment. But then, he pushes himself with his tentacles until he floats by his side, offering the terraforming gun to him.]

It isn't difficult. I imagine you will figure it out quickly. [Since Shiro is quite intelligent. Don't doubt that Fukami knows that much! It's just that Shiro can also be very dumb, though sometimes Fukami knows he's just pretending.]

[Wow that is complimentary and mean at once. Fukami is the best. It's not that he pretends to be dumb! It's just that well, he's umm, free-spirited and kind of a dork at his core.

But ooooh, he takes the terraforming gun carefully and holds it carefully, glancing from Fukami to the work the octopus has done.]

Right. So, should I continue there?

[He likes you, Shiro. Really he does.

Fukami takes up position next to him, though one tentacle slides over to wrap about his wrist lightly, urging him to lower his aim to the perfect spot. There. He'll pull it back once he does.]

Here. Go ahead. [IT'S QUITE NEAT at first... building up earth and all.]

Got it!

[He looks where Fukami has him repositioned. Good okay he's got this. He makes sure his hand is steady and fires.

He's however mostly floating and while the gun fires well and the earth builds up as it should, Shiro goes backwards on the verge of tumbling.]
