The Aurora Explosion
URSULA's voice crackles on over all forms of communication, radio and telepathic. In both, her transmission seems unstable. "Warning. Urgent. Attention required. I really mean it. Please evacuate the water. If impossible, hide immediately. The blast will be incoming from the east. The Aurora has reached critical status. Dark Matter engines failing. Core system failure impending, counting down in ten... nine... eight... sev-- sev-- five... four... three... tw--"

The explosion is felt everywhere.

Should any be above the surface in the line of sight of the Aurora, they will witness the fires of explosion. The outer shell pops and bursts into flame, billowing out, a deafening roar that cracks with a heavy wave buoying through the water. Shocks of steam fill the air, scalding what surfaces they burst over. A rain begins.

In some ways, it is the safest place to witness.

Below, the explosion ricochets. A shock blasts through the water, then another, sending wave after wave pushing seaweed flat down, knocking animals about, scattering and rocking sand. Pulses of burning hot bubbles shake through a radius, fizzling out only after it sears and disperses to ravage what rises above. Cold water filaments web through the pods of heat. The ocean shudders.

Even as far as the base, the Aurora’s explosion makes itself known. The whole structure shudders on its supports, loose items shaking and falling, rushes of white and dark water bursting past the observatory windows in one wave, another, a third, and in one empty observatory, a crack breaks through the glass, forcing URSULA to seal off the area temporarily.

Rain still falls above the Aurora’s wreckage. The last of the fires will be doused. When the waters become cool again, new sea life will move in to make food of the their dead brethren.

A strange keening shivers in the air at the edge of hearing.

[As a note, direct any questions regarding this event to the March OOC Post! And a special note for Korosensei, go for it ♥]

[There's a thump from the corner he's standing in when Korosensei starts looking around, water against the glass -- h sounds a little bit apprehensive, and a little bit amused, and mostly serious.]

I'm over here, no need for that sort of, ah, plan. And yes; if we're in and out of the danger zone as soon as possible I'd appreciate it, but I'm willing to take the risk regardless.
tentaculled: (tentacommentless)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-03-25 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
[ that immediately gets his attention; his beady little eyes are drawn to the spot by the glass. That must have been Mikleo. Better than slamming lockers, he supposes. ]

Very well. I'll take full responsibility if anything happens to your health! I'm no doctor, but I know a thing or two. [ without his super speed, it'd be harder to perform any kind of instant cure, but he'd at least try. He's only allowing Mikleo to go at all because he honestly has no idea what kind of creature he is. Could a "seraph" even get radiation poisoning? ]

I suppose there's only one way to find out if the transport is completed... [ ... getting in the water to go take a look at it. Something which he seems unwilling to do, standing by the hatch and wringing his hands anxiously. ]
oneandmikleonly: (and time goes quicker.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-03-26 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I'll put myself in your hands-- [well, tentacles] --afterward if need be.

[He has no idea how hard radiation will hit him either. If it were a normal human disease he might be all right, but the energy-based poisoning it was explained as sounds like something that's more likely to have an affect on a seraph. Oh well. It'll be worth it if they can take care of things fast, and at least they'll know for the future.

He'll measure the distance to the transport -- fortunately for Korosensei, he's figured out a couple of possible ways to fix the whole getting-in-the-water problem, and he's been practicing. One way is easier; one is faster. Time to take the plunge on which:]

Sensei. I know you have issues with swimming, but what about cold? Ice?
tentaculled: (tentaconverse)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-03-28 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ he looks a little bit surprised at the question, but answers nonetheless, still wringing his hands nervously. ]

Eh? Well, I'm not a huge fan of cold climates, but... What are you planning?

[ there's some more magic BS coming his way, isn't there?? lord help him. ]
oneandmikleonly: (said goodbye.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-03-28 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[YOUR RESIDENT SQUIRTLE IS VERY BS MAGIC I'M SORRY]

It's easier to push the water away from a space and then freeze it out for you than to maintain a bubble around you. Like--tunnels? Ice tunnels? It might make some of this easier than if I'm transporting you around wholesale through the water itself the whole trip, though what to use where does depend on the state of the ship when we get there.

[The other other avenue is to put Korosensei in a hamster ball of ice and haul THAT around, but that probably won't fly very well.]
tentaculled: (tentaconvicted)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-03-29 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
[ i mean, he's done weirder things ]

Y-you can do something like that?!

[ he doesn't know why he's surprised anymore, but he is... ]
oneandmikleonly: (calmer ocean or a sun.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-03-29 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[He sounds...embarrassed...?]

Yes, to a point. It's more...solid? To work with. But I wanted to check before we headed out. I should have said something sooner, I know.

[He's still learning.]
tentaculled: (tentachase)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-03-30 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
N -- No, no, it's fine. There wasn't exactly a good time to bring up your... ice powers.

[ god his life is weird. it was already weird to begin with but the weirdness level is ever increasing. ]

But! That does sound like it would be easier for me. Thank you, Mikleo-kun. I don't suppose you have an extra large sweater with you, too?
oneandmikleonly: (oh; poor Atlas.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-03-30 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
...I. No. Sorry. I don't know how to knit?

[very occasionally he is bad at jokes]

I'll try to keep it from getting too bad, though.

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-03-31 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ goodness gracious. He waves a tentacle in what he thinks is Mikleo's direction, although he's probably wrong. ]

No, no, it was a joke... Nevermind. Don't worry about little old Sensei. L-let's hurry up and go before I get cold feet about getting into the water again.

[ with a sharp intake of breath, he finally lifts one shaking tentacle and presses the button to open the hatch out of the airlock and into the water. He's wearing his suit, which is, of course, fully waterproof - but he can't help but make a small squeak of fear when the water starts pouring in anyway. Fortunately, the deck where their transportation is being held isn't too far away... ]

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-03-31 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a visible eddy of water movement next to him, a stream of bubbles -- the signs that someone or something else is there are a lot more obvious in the water, though they don't perfectly correspond to an invisible humanoid's movements like they should, because Tales of Zestiria is weird like that. Mikleo's tone is reassuringly calm.]

I've got you.

[There's a sharp tugging sensation and Korosensei will find the water itself pushing him forward and keeping him level; just at the pace of a regular swimmer instead of at speed, but Mikleo's saving energy right now.

To the transport they go!]
tentaculled: (tentaclueless)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-03-31 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ that's the closest he's gotten to actually seeing Mikleo, and it's a bit reassuring to know he isn't just losing it and talking to himself; unfortunately, the fact that the bubbles don't exactly correspond to human movement only reinforces his belief that Mikleo is some kind of super cool salamander guy.

He might have even asked about it and cleared up the mystery, but then the magic starts kicking in. ]

Okay -- [ cut off by a sharp, undignified squawk as he suddenly finds himself being pushed through the water; all those tentacles flail in a panic, although they do little to actually move him. He really is a terrible swimmer. ] T-that's you doing that, right?! I thought you said it was a tunneeeel!

[ you're going like 2mph sensei chill out ]
oneandmikleonly: (oh; poor Atlas.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-04-03 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
[The bubbles and eddies keep pace with him; Mikleo sounds a little surprised, but mostly keeps that steadying tone.]

You got in the water before I could -- yes, it's me. It'll just be a moment...

[Fortunately the flailing doesn't seem to have an effect on his spell, and Korosensei will find himself hovering next to the transport door before he knows it! Yaaay.]
tentaculled: (tentacollapse)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-04-04 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ bless your kindness and patience, Mikleo. At least it's harder to hear Korosensei's pathetic whimpers when they're underwater and he's behind a glass helmet. Once they arrive, it takes him a moment to realize it, mostly because he's covering his eyes with his hands. ]

W-we stopped moving... Are we here?! Nyuah! [ immediately, he presses his tentacles to the door. ] Ursula, it's meeee! Open up! I'm gonna be sick!

[ sorry, mikleo, he'll thank you later... unfortunately for sensei, there's water in the transport bay, too - only natural, considering their transport is water-based. ]
oneandmikleonly: (oh; poor Atlas.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-04-04 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[At least there shouldn't be water IN the transport. Probably? The door has mercy and opens up for Korosensei anyway; Mikleo climbs in by him kind of cautiously, a weird pressure and presence making its way to the other seat, and flicks whatever water's on both of them out the open door before it closes up again. He's never seen anyone so hydrophobic before.]

...I'll make the tunnels for you before we leave the transport, if I can. That should help?

[HE HOPES]
tentaculled: (contentacles)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-04-05 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ yes, their vehicle is miraculously dry. Korosensei moves remarkably fast once the door is open, sliding straight into that seat like the water outside is lava. The fit is a bit snug, especially considering his size - Mikleo might find some tentacles accidentally nestling up against him as the betentacled teacher sighs into the driver's seat of the Seamoth. ]

Y-yes. That would be a great help. [ he's quiet for a moment, for once, suckerlike fingers finding their way to the controls. He's never driven something like this before, but he's nothing if not a quick learner. However, that's not what he's thinking about. ] ... This body is highly absorbent. If I touch water, I'll swell up right away. Usually, it only slows me down, but if I were to be completely submerged... Well, the results wouldn't be good.

[ he doesn't freely tell others his weaknesses, but he feels like he owes Mikleo at least that much. He's had plenty of opportunities to try and assassinate Korosensei, and he hasn't taken a single one. That has to stand for something. ]

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-04-05 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
[the tentacles are sort of weird and more in his space than he'd like, but they can't really be avoided, so he just sighs himself and squashes down in the copilot's seat as best as he can. The admission surprises him enough that he shifts, though -- a strange movement of hard air where Korosensei's touching, hopefully not enough to disturb his efforts at the controls.]

No wonder you don't like going near the water at all.

[He does register it as, well, an admission, but not as Korosensei letting on a fatal weakness, just an understandable phobia. Killing intent isn't something he really does. Hunting for food is one thing, but when he fights it's generally to purify something, leaving it alive and healed at the end. Albeit...beaten up.

It does spark a thought, though. He hasn't asked everyone yet:]

It must have been hard, winding up here, then. Why ever did you choose to come somewhere that's so physically dangerous to you?
tentaculled: (tenteacles)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-04-07 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ logically, korosensei knows that kiling intent isn't something most people do, but at this point, it's practically hardwired into him - covering his own weaknesses, analyzing those of others. Fortunately, it's something he only uses to help people.

He tries to adjust himself so he's not poking Mikleo too much, removing his tentacles quickly when he feel them come into contact with something. If he needed proof that he really is a solid existence just out of sight, he supposes this is it. ]

Why? Well, my students insisted... I may look tough and grizzled, but I'm actually quite sensitive. There's no way I could look into those hopeful eyes and turn them down.
oneandmikleonly: (a bargain must be made.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-04-07 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[He sighs in relief when Korosensei gives him his space back -- he really doesn't mind putting up with the consequences of invisibility, but it does get a little weird sometimes. ...weirder, on Iniidae.

His attention pricks up at the word 'students.']

You're a teacher? ...wait, what kind of class asks their teacher to go to another planet, then?!

[He's not asking the obvious question: 'where ARE your students?' -- because, given what URSULA's said about the previous crew, he's sort of afraid of the answer.]
tentaculled: (tentaclass)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-04-08 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
[ nothing weird about holding tentacles with your teacher, okay... ]

Hm? Didn't I tell you? [ apparently not. Well, it's only a matter of time before absolutely everyone knows he's a teacher, whether they like it or not, given how much he likes to talk about teaching. And his kids. ] Yes, I am a teacher! The teacher of a very special class, as it so happens, which is precisely why we went to another planet. Surely you didn't think a sensei like me could be just an average teacher?

[ although he'd be flattered if he did. As he speaks, he looks over the controls, fingers sliding over the dashboard and wheel.

The obvious question has been on his mind for weeks, too. If Mikleo's afraid of the answer, then Korosensei is terrified. ]
oneandmikleonly: (rocking of the waves.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-04-08 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well -- I didn't think about you being a teacher at all until about five seconds ago, but -- I suppose that makes sense. i've never met one from, ah, a formalized school. With me and Sorey all the other villagers more or less pitched in; we didn't have a class class or anything.

[SKIRT THE AWKWARD SUBJECT SKIRT THE AWKWARD SUBJECT. He's also watching Korosensei work; he really has no idea how to pilot one of those things, but maybe observation will clear the mystery up a bit.]
tentaculled: (tentaclaim)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-04-11 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
You two must have been from quite the rural town, then. That kind of intimate learning environment can be a good thing, too, though. I have respect for all my fellow teachers.

[ in truth, he's never piloted anything like this before, either. But he's got the devil's intuition and learns things very quickly. Based on what he knows about how other vehicles control - helicopters, boats, cars, things he's used or learned how to use over the course of his stormy life - he can make an educated guess on how this one works. It's only a matter of seconds before the Seamoth whirs to life. ]

Oh! She's alive! Now, let's see... Reverse, reverse...

[ one of his tentacles tugs on a level, and behold, they're reversing. despite his fear about the water from before, he seems kind of excited now. ]
oneandmikleonly: (NOPE)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-04-14 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
It was a little village up in the mountains, so it was a bit--whoaaaaaaa--

[Now it's his turn to lean back and clutch at the seat. He's never even been in a wagon, let alone a moving technological vehicle like this, and it is an Experience. He's trying to keep his voice calm, but he still can't help but blurt:]

Don't hit anything!
tentaculled: (tentacrack)

[personal profile] tentaculled 2016-04-14 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
Nurufufu! For your information, sensei is a great driver!! There's no need to fear!

[ although he may be a bit of a speed demon. especially when there are no lights or traffic regulations to stop him... the Seamoth zips backwards out of the doors and into the open ocean. After that, all it takes is a few more strategic lever-tugs to get it turned around and pointing in the right direction... At which point, he puts the proverbial pedal to the metal.

Not that it goes very fast - it's an underwater vehicle - but damned if he isn't trying. ]
oneandmikleonly: (flotsam junk will do just fine.)

[personal profile] oneandmikleonly 2016-04-15 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
[there's still a definite mental aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa for a little bit, before Mikleo finally calms down, lulled by their not actually crashing into anything and the feeling of water rushing around the Seamoth, and starts looking out the windows.]

Amazing...!
