closed mingle: welcome to amity island.
[ Kara has cleared out a landing site just outside the area of the ship Mimi was camped in. Each member of the party has been given a rough map marking the more thickly forested areas, contours marked for hills, and an arrow in the water indicating the general direction back to the underwater base. There are Xs for where the old shipwreck emerges through the green, but only those visible from the air, if you're on foot you're on your own. In Kon's handwriting, the maps are all labelled Amity Island in block letters. The wildlife is friendly unless provoked; we can't vouch for the plants. ]
[ The body itself is in a sturdy wood coffin resting on a bed of freshly dug earth, the lid can be easily pushed off. Time to get cracking. ]
[ ooc info about the island can be found here and here. any questions should be directed to the mods at the second link. ]

The other thing was to check if he could sense ISHMAEL's soul anywhere in the area. He isn't sure if ISHMAEL would have a soul, but he's willing to try for it.
This is why a teenager is standing in the middle of the clearing, shades still on, hands in his pocket, and just... being there. In the centre. Standing. For once, Dirk isn't even paying attention to the sounds around him. He is reaching out and trying to sense souls.
Perhaps he'll sense yours? Hopefully it isn't weird af. He might wonder.]

[Dude? Hajime's going to come up from behind him, trying to get a sense of where the other boy is actually looking behind the shades. Is there something important that can only be observed from this perspective? He's hitting the △ button to notice!]
Did you find anything?

it's on his way out from the dead animal room when he spots dirk standing in the clearing. he seems to be pretty relaxed, but peter decides to approach him anyway, just in case. his fingers run along the trigger for his web shooters hidden beneath his sleeve, but he doesn't do much other than to call out to him. ]

I'm not interrupting anything of high importance right now, am I?

[It sounds like it's said mostly to himself as he approaches the coffin, taking a deep breath as if to steel his nerves. It's different than the island, not just because it's a stranger, but also that it's been sitting in humid air for... he doesn't know how long. That's not his kind of specialty.]
No blood, meaning... [He's still... talking to himself... moving around the coffin and the surrounding area, paying more attention to the ground and the campsite itself.]
The body wasn't found like this, was it? [That's directed to whoever might be around.] I mean... the ground looks like it was dug up pretty recently.
[Who disturbed the crime scene... he doesn't look too happy about that.
Alternatively, Hajime can be found muttering half-sentences to himself as he moves through the campsite, picking up items to examine as he goes. There might not be a Danganronpa-style class trial waiting for him, but it's become habit at this point.]
no subject
It's annoying isn't it? I assume the people who found it had planned to bury it or something. They might have changed their mind after starting. But it makes everything harder than it has to be.
[Because how were you suppose to examine everything properly when the body was moved and the ground disturbed? There were probably valuable clues just completely destroyed.]
It would probably be a good idea to talk to the ones who found all this and get their statement.

I wonder where I should start?
[Probably looking at where the person came and went would be best. It was the sort of thing people might not think to do at first as well. He should find as many details as he could first, and then go check up on everyone else. He wasn't sure how observant the rest of the group was, but if anything he knew there would be something over looked or casually brushed off when it was more important than it seemed.
Noticing foot prints he decided to take a closer look at those, and ultimately follow them to wherever they went.]

I do hope that you would not mind my company Nagito.

This is really cool, isn't it? An actual murder mystery--but I feel terrible for whatever happened to her.

But she needs to be useful, and it's time to get this over with. She kneels down next to the coffin, lifting the lid slowly. Once the lid is off, she takes a deep breath to steel herself - AND REGRETS IT BECAUSE FYI CORPSES SMELL - before beginning to go over the body.]
... No outright obvious signs of what caused her death, no immediate injuries... The temperature around us is going to throw off when she died...
[After a gulp, she leans into the coffin and is... is she undressing the corpse?]

[Hajime's... breathing through his mouth, doing his best not to look too sick at the sight of a week-old corpse. Aaaand she's undressing it, alright. Well, one of them is the SHSL Nurse, and it's certainly not Hajime.]

After that is done, Kanaya vanishes into the jungle to follow one of the sets of footprints. She can be found inspecting the charred area of land, wrinkling her nose at the smell.
Much later in the day, Kanaya can be found looking through the datapads. The one she is currently holding is the one about the dream Mimi had about vampires fighting mortals. She looks like she is trying not to laugh, as this is a very serious situation, and jfc Kanaya there is a dead body.

Find anything useful?

Can you tell me what's on that datapad? There was useful information on most of the others - I've already scoured what I could from them. [The animals' information, and the Jellyshroom sickness logs, are both gold mines of info. What could be on this one that's so amusing?]

It's not the first time Don has been one of the only walking members of a largely flight-capable group. Being a ninja has its perks: the Turtle will scale any nearby trees for necessary height, scribbling down notes even while hanging from branches - possibly even upside-down. He's also brought a test kit, and he'll be gathering samples from the area both immediately around the body and, more reluctantly, the body itself.
Since the Turtle also has two-toed feet, he's making an effort to stay away from any of those footprints, sticking close to designated areas and marking his steps with an occasional bo staff jab into soft dirt. Wouldn't want to contaminate the evidence...
Finally, one might be able to find Donatello after any detailed autopsies have been done, looking rather quietly at the remains of Mimi's body.]
Whatever happened to her, I hope it wasn't for nothing.
no subject
Whoa. A giant turtle! And here I thought I've seen it all!
[ Please don't mind her pointing out the obvious......
But anyway--right. Murder mystery, turtle questions can come later. D.Va joins him in looking at Mimi's body, examining the body to try and determine the cause of death for herself. ]
...Did you figure out anything yet? How did she die?

He does try to keep his solemnity to himself, however; because he's definitely noticed Peter's enthusiasm. Don't want to sour the kid's mood.]
Yeah, I am. [He's already suited up. As open as he is about showcasing the armor, Tony still doesn't want to draw too much attention to himself, so suiting up in front of a bunch of people would be the opposite of what he wants.] I wouldn't have offered otherwise.
